United States: Abortions by Planned Parenthood on the Rise

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) - the American source for “Family Planning” - is an association founded in 1916 by Margaret Sanger to promote birth control in the United States.

Over time, the association has grown into an international federation that campaigns, with hundreds of millions of dollars, for the right to abortion, gender theory, etc.

It has more than 600 clinical locations, 58 medical and related subsidiaries, and 101 non-medical subsidiaries in the United States, making it the largest provider of abortion access in the country.

According to its latest annual report in February 2021, PPFA claims to have performed 354,871 abortions in fiscal year 2019-2020, an increase of 2.7% from the previous fiscal year.

The organization is also announcing an increase in its public funding, due to related activities in the field of health; enough to make American pro-life activists jump: “Planned Parenthood’s number one objective is abortion, not health care,” denounces Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), a association which fights against abortion in the United States.

This activist for the right to life is also sounding the alarm, because in the United States, the number of voluntary terminations of pregnancy (abortion) practiced in PPFA approved establishments is increasing “while at the same time, we observe an overall drop in the number of abortions in the country.”

Several members of Congress and the former Trump administration had tried to end public funding for the abortive body—to no avail, since in fiscal year 2019-2020, Planned Parenthood received $618 million in public funding, i.e., an additional $1.3 million compared to the previous fiscal year.

The public windfall should be even more abundant, thanks to the new head of the American executive branch: the White House has just confirmed its support for federal funding of Planned Parenthood, and President Joe Biden reminded the States in the Union that they now have to ensure that Medicaid—state health insurance for low-income people—pays for abortion.

The Marjorie Dannenfelser’s fight is far from over, but the president of the SBA List is not ready to give up, facing the new democratic administration: “we will not stop fighting in order to suppress the public funding of the abortion industry, by providing valid alternatives, because women and families have a right to the protection of life,” she said.
