Holy Saturday: Tenebrae recorded in Ecône (Switzerland)

The Office of Tenebrae on Holy Saturday is the transition from the commemoration of the Lord's suffering and death to the joy of the Resurrection. The tone is quite different from the Tenebrae of Good Friday. A great impression of gentleness, peace and serenity emanates from these responses.

This Office is a kind of funeral vigil around a tomb that we know will not keep its captive. Death is there as if defied. We will consider, in all these responses, the faithful souls surrounding the tomb of the Saviour, the circumstances and effects of His death, as well as the allusions to the glory that will follow.
